Happy Friday {{First Name | all}},

This week has been heavy.

The fires in LA have disrupted so much—homes lost, families displaced, businesses on pause, and the air itself feeling hostile. Watching fires sweep through the hills, pushed by gusting winds, has been surreal and, at times, overwhelming.

For me and my wife, we’ve evacuated twice. It wasn’t dramatic—no flames chasing us—but it was unsettling. The evacuation zone came close enough to make us leave, and the smoke in the air (and in our lungs) left us with no choice.

Right now, we’re in San Diego, coughing through the last bit of sickness, watching air quality updates, and figuring out our next move. Heading home is on the horizon, but it’s hard not to worry—about the air we’ll breathe, what’s settled on our walls, and what we’ll walk back into.

Momentum? It’s been impossible to build this week. For so many in LA, including myself.

I’m out of my routines. I haven’t been able to work out or find my usual rhythm. My wife is sick, and I’ve felt the fog of uncertainty take over more than I’d like. We’re worried about our friends. I’ve been reflecting on that saying: Happiness = Expectations - Reality. Expectations for the new year were high and none of us expected this reality. It’s an adjustment for all of us.

I’m sharing all of this not because I have answers or lessons to offer, but because it’s where I am. I don’t want to be posting today if I’m being truly authentic about it.

I’m trying to remind myself that Momentum has always been about showing up, even when you don’t want to, and leaning on each other when we need it, so here we are.

I’m inspired seeing so many people out supporting community efforts or taking care of their families. I’m grateful to our friends for opening up their home to take us in, as we weren’t sure where to go. I send love to all of you, while humbly coughing up a lung at home trying to figure out what to do next week, as you’re all going through it.

Asking for help is not something I’m great at, but that’s what this week is forcing me to do. So here we go:

How You Can Help

  1. Share a Submission
This week, I’d love to hear from you. I’m catching my breath personally, but collectively we can keep going. What is a story you think would benefit the community? Sharing your story could help lift someone else—and right now, we could all use the inspiration. Email me by hitting reply or submit here. Next week’s posts will be member stories. If no one feels like it, I’ll pick things up as soon as I can.

  2. Support Fire Relief
If you’re able, consider donating to support those hit hardest by the fires, to whichever organization you believe in.
I’ve added a sponsored ad in this newsletter for the first time, and all proceeds this month will go toward relief efforts. Every click contributes $3—it’s a small gesture, but it adds up.

  3. Keep Moving Forward
Even in weeks like this, the smallest steps matter. I’ve seen the updates you’ve shared—on Strava, through thoughtful emails, and in the habits you’re tracking. You’re showing up, and that keeps me motivated. Let’s keep going, even if it’s not perfect.

This week hasn’t offered tidy answers. It’s been a test—not just of patience, but of resilience. What I’m learning is that momentum isn’t about having everything figured out. It’s about showing up, however messy or uncertain things feel, and finding the next step forward.

Thanks for being here—for reading, for supporting, and for reminding me why this community matters. If there’s something you need, or if there’s a way I can show up better for you, let me know.

Here’s to your health and happiness,
Eric
